Presidential BARBIE-Q Sloppy Joes

Over the years, Barbie, who debuted this day in 1959, has had a series of different jobs, from airline stewardess, doctor, pilot and astronaut to Olympic athlete and even U.S. presidential candidate.  Since her debut, more than 800 million dolls in the Barbie family have been sold around the world and Barbie is now a bona fide global icon.

Presidential BARBIE-Q Sloppie Joes
Makes 4 sandwiches

This is a bona fide great idea for a quick meal, suitable for presidents and common folk alike.  Much tastier than using a seasoning packet.

1 lb. ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 large tomato, pureed
1/2 cup brown sugar & hickory barbecue sauce
1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
4 hamburger buns

Brown ground beef with onion in nonstick skillet on medium-high heat until meat is no longer pink and onion is tender, about 5 minutes; drain.  Return meat to skillet and stir in garlic for 1 minute.

Add tomato puree, barbecue sauce and cayenne pepper.  Reduce heat to medium and cook 3 min. or until slightly thickened, stirring occasionally.  Spoon about 1/2 cup meat mixture onto each bun.

Tips:
1 large tomato, pureed, is equal to 1 cup pureed tomato.

For a Cheesy BARBIE-Q Sloppy Joe, top sandwich with a slice of cheese.

Catholic Barbie enjoys a meat-free BARBIE-Q Sloppy Joe during Lent by substituting 1 pkg. (12 oz.) BOCA Crumbles for ground beef.
